Sex Addiction

Sex addiction is a controversial term. Some therapists support the idea that people can be addicted to sex and others talk about the misnaming of the behaviours as an addiction.

Regardless of your stance on this, if you are experiencing any of the below, then exploring the possibility of sex addiction with a therapist can be a positive step to take.

  • Feelings of compulsion to have sex and that not having sex impacts engagement with all other things one has to do in their day.

  • Craving sex, similar to the drive we have to eat when we are hungry.

  • No changes to behaviour even when there have been negative consequences to sexual behaviour such as hurting a partner, putting oneself in high risk situations or being unethical in a workplace.

  • A loss of control over when, how or if a person is going to have sex.
